Sarah's Birthday, Part 2

Sarah woke up the day of her party in some sort of funk. She complained of a stomach ache, but no gastrointestinal issues occurred. We thought that she would perk up with the surprise arrival of Aunt Beth and then her party guests. Aunt Beth was able to pull some smiles out of her, but as you can see from the pictures, the Garden Fairy party just wasn't doing it for her.

Anna, on the other hand, had a great time.

Making Flower Power Fairy Food... hummingbird eggs, pepperberry sticks, dried mushroom caps and fairy fluff.

She spent a lot of time sleeping in JB's arms.

Flower drop game.... note Sarah's expression in the background.

Even Anna got to play.

Enjoying the fairy feast... Unicorn Calzones and Fruity Fairy Wands.

We managed to wake her up so her friends could sing happy birthday to her. She licked the icing off of the candles, but that's all she wanted.

We did manage to get one smile out of her.

Motrin induced smile later in the afternoon.

She woke up this morning fever free, but is currently asleep on the couch in the den. I'm sure the fever is back which means we won't be celebrating with her friends at school tomorrow.

Gramps is coming to town today for a conference and will be coming out tomorrow night for pizza, presents and hopefully a leftover cupcake. Sarah will be excited to see him.

Sarah's Birthday, Part 1

I can't believe my baby is almost 5. Where did the time go? It just flew out of the window and will never come back. Thank goodness for digital cameras. Not sure I'll get around to posting our usual walk down memory lane, but that's the beauty of the blog. Just click on the link for any previous February to see how much Sarah Maxine has grown.

Here are a few pictures of Sarah modeling the wings, halo and wand that we got as party favors for her birthday party. We took these Friday, which is good because she was sick for the party itself. So these are the only pictures we have of her in the fairy get-up. You definitely can't tell from these pictures that there are some serious fever bugs coursing through her veins. :-)

Utah, part 3

On our last day in Park City I finally got to ski! It was just enough for me, though. JB patiently spent the entire morning on the bunny slopes with me. I didn't fall once, but getting off of the lift made me nervous every single time!

Friday was Sarah's third day of ski school and the instructors wanted to bump her up to the Yellow Group. She, however, wanted nothing to do with the Yellow Group. We agreed to let her stay with the Red Group so as not to taint he last day of skiing. After watching her while we ate lunch, though, we decided she needed a challenge. We pulled her out early and took her up the mountain ourselves. She LOVED the lift (much different from the gondola!).

UTAH, part 2

The Ski School scene...

Sarah was in the Red Group. She had a different instructor each day, but didn't seem to mind.

My two favorite skiers after Day 2 of Ski School. Happy, but tired.

But not too tired for some silliness.

UTAH, part 1

What a great vacation! We had an amazing time, learned a lot and are ready to go back again.

The camera spent most of the time on the snowy mountainside which, unfortunately, means Anna makes few appearances on film (well, memory card). Rest assured that she was there and had a great time running around the hotel, playing with Owen and starting a new toddler habit that has JB and I wondering where our sweet little baby went.

Enjoy the pictures!

A sisterly moment walking down the hotel hallway just before getting to the elevator and having a rather loud argument about whose turn it was to push the button.

Sarah ate chicken wings for the first time. Do you think she liked them?

Anna puckering up to kiss a moose in a gift shop. We came home with multiple tshirts, hats, magnets and postcards that we forgot to mail.

Playing outside as we waited for JB and Sarah to come off of the slopes.

Snowmageddon

We went to bed Friday night with our flight to Utah already rebooked and thinking there was now way this storm was going to be as bad as predicted. It had been snowing steadily since about 11am, but didn't start accumulating on the roads until after dark. There was quite a bit on the ground, but nothing to make us think we would wake up to over a foot in the morning.

Well, we were wrong. This is what we woke up to Saturday morning and it continued to snow until late afternoon.

We were invited to dinner at our neighbors house Saturday. Awesome, b/c I didn't have figure out how to concoct a meal out of our vacation-empty pantry and fridge. Not so awesome b/c it meant JB had to shovel. He started to shovel the "short side" of the driveway, but quickly changed his game plan to a single file path to the street. We arrived at the neighbor's with snow stuck to our pants up to our mid-thighs. Thank goodness they had shoveled their front walk or it would have been worse!

This morning we are in packing mode. We have checked in for our flight, but are still not 100% confident it will happen. The truck will be our mode of transport to the airport, so the back had to be mostly shoveled out. JB worked while the girls and I played.

Schools have already been cancelled for Monday. Our neighbors said it would be unlikely for our street to see a plow any time soon. This place is going to be nuts for a while.

Every couple of weeks (when it's time to make new playdough at school) Sarah brings home some sort of "sculpture." This is what she made last week. She is very proud of it. It is now sitting with pride on her nightstand. Can you guess what it is?
