Sarah's New Ride

Sarah got a hand-me-down Barbie Jeep last week. We thought she would be totally excited about driving it around the backyard and down the sidewalk. Oddly, all she wants to do is play in it. She straps herself in with the velcro seatbelt (most often in the passenger seat) and carries on elaborate converstations with Little Boy and Little Girl. The only time she drives it is in and out of her "garage" (a spot on the backporch that JB cleared off).

Friday was Scout's 7th birthday. Sarah picked a huge pig femur for her at Petsmart that Scout devoured half of in about 5 minutes. We were amazed that it took almost 24 hours for her to puke it up on the living room carpet. Needless to say, the rest of it got thrown in the trash.

After they went to Petsmart, JB stopped by the grand opening of Dick's Sporting Goods and bought Sarah her first baseball glove. It has lights that flash when you catch the ball. Very cool...

Her obsession with Annie continues. She has picked up on most of the lyrics in the songs including the part of Little Girls when Ms. Hannigan talks about a man nibbling on her ears. I almost ran off the road when I heard her sing that part! The stars aligned last weekend when one of the local high schools did a performance of Annie. Sarah sang every song with them and had a great time. She got pretty antsy when they weren't singing, but I came prepared with snacks. Oh, and I'm sorry to Mom, Dad, Greg and countless other family members that had to sit through musicals every year. I know it wasn't easy listening to all that racket while your butt was going numb in a metal folding chair.

Sorry for the long blog this week. We have done a lot and I've just now had time to sit down at the computer. Baby Sister and I are doing well. I'm 35 weeks and ready to be done!

We headed to Atlanta last weekend to take Sarah to the Georgia Aquarium. I was skeptical of spending a total of 6 hours in the car just to see some big fish, but it turned out to be worth every second. The drive actually wasn't bad at all and the aquarium was amazing. Fish, sharks, beluga whales, penguins, sea lions, otters, a sea turtle. You could touch rays, anenomes and starfish. It was pretty crowded b/c it was a Saturday, but there wasn't really any way around that. We forgot to take the still camera, so the pictures are from the video camera and not too good. You'll get the idea, though.

JB played in a soccer game last week at school. US officers vs. the International Officers. It was the first time he'd played since he was last at Diego. He was sore the next day, but had a good time. Sarah and I went to watch. Good thing he was wearing bright orange socks so she could follow him on the field. And, yes, he had sunscreen on his head!

Vegetables?!

Sarah ate some carrots today. Yes, you read right. My daughter who has been boycotting vegetables for the last 2 years ate some carrots. I was munching on some carrots and hummus while I was getting everything out for dinner. She walked up with her red stool, grabbed a carrot, dipped it in and ate it like it was something she did every day. Granted, there was quite a bit of hummus hanging off the end of that little orange delicacy, but hey, I'll take what I can get. The best part is that she went back for more... several times! Maybe she won't get my crummy eyesight afterall.

In other vegetable news, JB and Sarah are growing beans. I have no idea what kind, but they are having fun watching them grow. They started them in ziplocs and then transplanted them. Sarah was excited when they started poking out from the soil. Maybe she'll have her Bubba's green thumb.

Last week was nuts... doctor appointments for Sarah and I both, dentist for me, a hair cut, playgroups, a baby shower, a baseball game (Go Biscuits!) and the circus. We were on the move constantly. We also started transforming the dining room into a playroom. It was totally unused space, except for rainy days when the tent came out, and we realized that our small living room wouldn't be big enough for Sarah's stuff and all of the baby gear. As we were moving toys to their new home, Sarah rediscovered Mr. Potato Head and has been playing with him non-stop. She likes cooking him Rice Krispies with brownies. Lucky Spud.

Thought you'd all get a kick out of Sarah's latest masterpiece. After weeks of just smiley faces she has finally added more features. Note... when asked what the line across the top of each face is called, she says, "It's a forehead!" That's my girl.

Sarah now has a favorite song thanks to TuTu. At least 4 hours of her day are spent singing the most recognized song from Annie. She listened to it all the way back from Little Rock on her headset, sings it on her "stage" (aka the fireplace hearth), in the bed, on the couch, in the car, on her swings, trying on clothes... you get the picture.
